'Ink Wash Horse' - Ink & Acrylic Wash (65cm x 50cm) - 2004 - Private Sale

“Ever since I was a small child I have drawn horses. As soon as I was able, I was modelling them out of plasticine, then clay. Although sometimes I enjoy change, and the challenge of turning to alternative subject matter, I will always return to representing the horse. Throughout art history there have been truly iconic Equestrian works produced. The Assyrian relief works of old, Greek statues, Leonardo’s drawings, Donatello's sculpture, Stubb’s anatomical works and his famous oil of ‘Whistlejacket’, to name but a few. Being fortunate enough to have been around horses and ponies all of my life has enabled me to really observe how they are put together, their movement, diversity, power and beauty as well as their less positive, unpredictable traits and nuances! The universal thread that runs through my equestrian work is the desire to capture the movement and real character of the horse, indeed the same could be said for all my work. It is a continual learning curve, but a challenge I relish. My work is regularly seen at the annual prestigious 'Hickstead Dressage' competitions, in association with 'The British Dressage Supporters Club' and I have exhibited at the 'Society of Equestrian Artists' annual exhibition, at the Mall Galleries in London."
